Introducing Kayla Stone Books Review Submission Guidelines

There's a particular kind of loneliness in sending a book out into the world and hearing nothing back. You've spent months, maybe years, with these characters. You know them better than you know some of your own relatives. And then the book exists, out there, and mostly what comes back is silence — or worse, a review that reads like it was written by someone who skimmed the jacket copy.

I started Kayla Stone Books for several reasons. I want to be the opposite side of that silence.

What This Is

Beyond writing books, I read books also. Real, physical, ink-on-paper books and I write honest reviews about them. That's the whole premise, and I've tried to keep it that simple.

For $45, I'll give your book my full, unhurried attention. Not a skim, not a scan for keywords, not an AI summary dressed up as a read. I sit down with it the way I'd want someone to sit down with mine: carefully, generously, and without pretense. When I'm done, you'll get a written review — 250+ words — that reflects what's actually on the page. Its ambitions. Its craftsmanship. Where it lands, and where it might still be finding its footing.

That review is yours. Use it for your book's Editorial Reviews listing, a press kit, a query letter, your website — wherever it serves the book best.

Who I'm Reading For

I'm especially drawn to debut and independent authors — the ones without a publicity team, without a guaranteed review pipeline, without the built-in visibility a big imprint provides. Right now I'm reading biographies and memoirs, debut novels, romance, thriller, horror, fantasy, and post-apocalyptic fiction. If your book doesn't quite fit those lanes, reach out anyway. I'm happy to point you toward someone who might be a better match.

A Few Things Worth Knowing Up Front

I'd rather you know exactly what you're signing up for before you send anything my way, so here's the practical side of how this works:

I only read physical copies. No digital files, no PDFs, no e-readers. If you'd like me to review your book, query me first — email me the title, genre, word or page count, a short synopsis, and your publication date if you have one. Once I confirm it's a fit, I'll send mailing and payment details.

Shipping is on you, the author. Once your book arrives, I won't be sending it back — after I've finished the review, I donate the copy to a local assisted living facility, where I hope it finds a second reader who's glad to have it.

The review fee pays for the read, not for a rating. I write what I find on the page, not what's easiest to sell. That means I can't promise a glowing review, and I won't pretend to. A review that's guaranteed positive isn't really a review — it's an advertisement wearing a review's clothes. What I can promise is that I'll actually read your book, think about it seriously, and tell you the truth about what I found there. In my experience, that's the only kind of review that's ever done a book any real good.

I don't post reviews to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Goodreads, or any other third-party site on your behalf. The review I send you is yours to use however you'd like — in your book's Editorial Reviews section, a press kit, your website — but placing it anywhere is entirely up to you, done under your own name or account. This keeps things simple and honest on both ends.

Why This Matters to Me

I've always believed that being read closely is a kind of gift — one that's gotten rarer as more of what passes for "reading" happens at algorithm speed. If you've written a book and you're looking for someone to actually meet it on the page, I'd be glad to be that reader.

Ready to send your pitch? Reach out, tell me about your book, and let's see if it's a fit.
